This is one of those weekends where the options can start to blur together fast.
Every suburb has a parade, a festival, a fireworks show, or some combination of the three. Helpful, yes. But also a lot. Most families are not trying to build a military-grade holiday itinerary. Most of us are just looking for one thing that feels worth the sunscreen, snacks, and inevitable “when are we leaving?” questions.
So this week’s list leans that direction. One big downtown option if you want the full Columbus version of the Fourth, a couple easier local celebrations, and a few lower-key picks for anyone who would prefer books, markets, food trucks, or a simple morning outing.

Their weekend birthday parties are private and active, with 90 minutes on the gym floor led by instructors, followed by 30 minutes in the party room. They are designed for kids ages 5 and up and can host up to 30 participants.
Movement Lab gives kids a real experience, not just a room and a sheet cake. Families can choose up to two party formats, including games, Ninja Warrior, or open gym, and the whole setup is built for kids who genuinely like to move. Big crowds, big energy, and one of those once-a-year outings that can absolutely turn into a core memory if everyone is in the right mood and you plan accordingly. Not low effort, obviously. But if you want the skyline, the fireworks, and the whole city-feeling version of the Fourth, this is the anchor.

This feels like a much more manageable holiday option if downtown sounds like too much. There’s a family picnic, room to spread out, and fireworks without the full BOOM-level logistics. A nice pick if you want festive without turning the whole day into an operation.

A strong west-side option with enough going on to make it feel worth the trip. Food trucks, music, kid activities, and fireworks later in the evening. This is a good middle ground if you want something celebratory but a little easier than heading downtown.

For families not trying to turn July 4 into an all-day production, this is a very good counterplan. Wander for a bit, grab breakfast or coffee, let the kids soak in the energy, and still be home by lunch. Sometimes that is the perfect amount of outing.

A nice break from all the red-white-and-blue programming. Food, music, and a little more loose, come-and-go energy. This one works well for families who want to be out and about but are not especially interested in camping out for a fireworks show.

This is exactly the kind of Sunday event I love for a holiday weekend. Local, low-key, and specific enough to feel fun without becoming a whole thing. If your family tends to do better with books and a shorter outing than with crowds and late-night fireworks, this is a great reset.
